Whether it's gastronomic greatness, artistic endeavour or cultural cachet you're looking for, there's no doubt that France still sits right at the top of the European heap. France is the country for which the word chic was invented - seductive and aloof, old-fashioned and forward-looking, but always characterised by a certain je ne sais quoi.

The country that gave the world champagne, casseroles and Camembert is justly famous for its cooking, and you'll find there are plenty of places to indulge yourself. But while France is undoubtedly a place to eat and drink to your heart's content, there's much more to this fascinating country than cutting-edge cuisine.

The majority of  host families live in or near Paris and life is lived at a fast pace.We place au pairs in the following areas : Paris , Britanny , Normandy and the Loire Valley

Paris is one of the major global cities in the world. It offers a heady mix of culture, art, sport, business,  architecture, gastronomy and history all rolled into one.  Have a look at the webcams at Paris Live by clicking on the picture of the Eiffel tower above. Often both parents work and will rely on you to ensure that the children eat well and complete their homework and attend their extra activities such as ballet or soccer as well as playdates with friends. It will be your responsibility to keep the home tidy and make sure that everyone has fresh clean clothes. It would be an advantage if you can drive only if you are placed in the suburbs. Hardly anybody takes their cars into Paris as public transport is excellent and safe and there is no parking anywhere. You will see cars sandwiched into spaces you would never have dreamed possible.

You do not need to speak any French to be an aupair in Paris, many families will accept an English speaking aupair, but you do need to committ yourself to attending French classes to get the most out of your experience and of course the children in your care may not speak much English at all!

Two programs are available

  • French classes even in grade 8 would be an advantage.
  • Be willing to enrol in French classes after your arrival at your own cost (not required for summer aupair)
  • Be able to provide your own airfare.

What will this cost me?

Do I need to speak French?

Most host parents speak a reasonable English and most Parisians can communicate in English, but you should try to have a grasp of basic French before you go as it is unlikely that the children in your care will understand very much English! You should be speaking and understanding French well by the time you return.
